It's been said, "study what you like". Gelfand was not known as a highly tactical grandmaster, however he reached the zenith or chess. His mastery of players & positions with such technical precision is impressively on display in this book. With classic quotes like, "Stop the draw death Take a Sledge Hammer to your laptop"...."Turn off your computer engine and look at the board".
Gelfands technical ability and strong play & annotations demonstrates & disproves several things that are wrongly believed in the chess world. Gelfand demonstrates the destruction of a defensive fortress. This feat alone is worth the read. The single game stretches for nearly 30 pages. Thorough analysis can open a chess players eyes to the misnomers chess engines teach and the nature of positions and possibilities that are available to a skilled player.
His implementation of the Queen's Gambit known for positional play, will help the reader by showing tactical possibilities. I increased my results with 1.d4 quite a bit after reading this book. Gelfand's positional style and tactical vision counters well against modern engines.
I plan to read Gelfands whole series of books after this book. I was very impressed with the material and annotations. And far more impressed with my own improvement after reading the book.

An excellent and deeply interesting book. I especially enjoyed how Boris Gelfand uses examples and themes taken from his own chess career, making the content feel both personal and highly instructive.

The book also gives insight into the inspirations behind his dynamic style of play, which adds another fascinating dimension to the material.
