This book is the absolute best pre- engine chess workbook. 745 exercises, Very few mistakes and good explanations. Games that reach back to the 50's all the way late 90's & a handful in early 2000's.
On scale of 1 to 10 on difficult exercises I would give this book a sold 6.5. Hard but the answers become easier as you work through the book.
I gained more ELO from this book than any single workbook. Starting out this book took me from 1 movers & gambit tricks. To calculation of tactics based on good positions...
The price per exercise can't be argued with, with 745 exercises setting up a Dailey routine learning true chess calculation with just one book. Contains many historical games, positions & famous player games. Learning calculation & historical knowledge in one book... a must read for the club player
